Freecall VoIP calls in Mac OS

For those of you that use VoIP software for calls (international or not) I must say that I’ve been using my Frecall account with Express Talk for Mac, and it’s working nicely. I was using Freecall over Windows because they only provide a Windows softphone. But now that I found the alternative, I’ll avoid the rebooting every time I needed to make a VoIP call.

As I said here before, I use Frecall because it’s the cheapest I’ve found for my necessities. But you can always try Voipbuster – brother of Freecall – or other. There is Gizmo Project that supports all major OSs as I remember. And then you have also Jajah, which is supposed to be the “easiest” as it does not need us to install any software, we just need your web browser to sign for an account and to start communication phone-to-phone (initiated over the web). Still, Jajah price for my international calls are higher than Frecall.

Anyway, returning to The Express Talk softphone, I can say it is free, it has a Mac version and we can configure 6 different lines – this means we can have accounts in 6 different SIP providers.

If we want to configure our Freecall (or Voipbuster) account we just need to open the application Preferences panel, then click on Lines, and use our username and password with sip.voiparound.com (or sip.voipbuster.com) as our server.

Hope this information is helpful for anyone. Let me know.

Hello! I'm glad it was useful for you.... about Xmeeting, you has to be sure you has SIP enabled, not h.323, look into the Address Book tab in the preferences, maybe this image can help... http://img.skitch.com/20081217-fej6ybyc54638shytaha5rem3m.jpg With this selected, xmeeting will use your SIP account and will not ask for gatekeeper. Let me know if it works!!!!

and in the accounts tab, be sure to be registering SIP accounts, not h.323 gatekeeper accounts! Good luck!

hello, the only way to use freecall in Mac, is to use an alternative software like the ones I write in the post.... you can try to configure freecall in Express Talk, or Xmeeting, o others around there that I can't remember the names...

Hi, Thank you for the post. I was frustrated by clicking on the link for Mac or Linux users on freecall.com. I am able to install Express talk, use freecall.com now.

hello anonymous... if you take the time to read the post, you should knew that you can't download freecall softphone on your mac, you download another softphone like express tak, xmeeting, or xlite to configure with your freecall account...

thank u very much for this great software!
i have a question though: ive been using voipbuster and freecall and webcalldirect. is there any chance to set the settings for all 3 programmes and then chose according to my calldestination? ive tried configuring 3 lines and clicked a different line every time before starting a call but im not sure its right!
and also: where can i see my balance of how much money i still have on my account?
would be gratefull for an answer

Hello anonymous,
You can set up at least 6 lines in Express Talk for Mac, I just don't remember how (now I'm using Telephone from the Google Code project). This Telephone software also allows for more than one voip account, no matter what provider you're using, having the correct configurations. The balance of the account is a thing I can only see when login online into my account (I now use voip from nonoh.net), if I find another way I let you know!

They now have a mac client of their own at voipraider, find it at the download page.

It works really nice just like the windows version.
